After the expulsion of the French, the Prince of Orange was proclaimed Sovereign Prince of The Netherlands. William I Frederick, born Willem Frederik Prins van Oranje-Nassau (24 August 1772 – 12 December 1843), was a Prince of Orange, the first King of the Netherlands and Grand Duke of Luxembourg.

In Germany, he was ruler (as Fürst) of the Principality of Nassau-Orange-Fulda from 1803 until 1806 and of the Principality of Orange-Nassau. In 1813 King William I was named 'Sovereign Prince' of the Netherlands, and proclaimed himself King of the Netherlands, where one year later (1814) he founded De Nederlandsche Bank (The Dutch Bank) and exchanged the British Bangka Island in Indonesia against the Dutch"establishment Cochin" in India. Thereby the Belgian King Leopold III shortly save the world from the fascist takeover, like his father Albert I intended to do. The War Crisis on a Hair Trigger, Blair is being Impeached, Impeach Obama!

The world, as Helga Zepp-LaRouche stressed in discussions on Wednesday, is much closer to world war than you think. The British Empire and its puppet Obama are provoking Russia to an extreme degree with the slaughter in Ukraine, to try to force Putin to war; the Empire, including its Saudi branch, has also unleashed complete bloody chaos in Southwest Asia, playing all the sides in "sectarian" war there, and pushing Obama to intervene.

There is one path out: Impeach Obama. Sanction the Saudis and British. Release the 28 pages of the truth of 9/11.

Two major developments in the past 24 hours are critical to know. First, impeachment proceedings were filed in the House of Commons against Tony Blair by one MP; supported on the floor by another senior member. This is not to remove Blair from office; it's to prosecute and punish him for aggressive war, state lying, corruption of government. The British media are awash with attacks on Blair, days after he said new military action is necessary in Iraq. Remember, when Obama was ready to attack Syria, the first "blockade" against that was the House of Commons resolution prohibiting David Cameron from taking a step. So, perhaps, again.

Second, Obama told Congressional leaders in a meeting this week, that he did not need to consult Congress before taking military action in Iraq. That he claimed he was not taking it in the next 24 hours, is irrelevant, and false — we have the reports that he has ordered preparations, target acquisition, etc. He claims he can start a third Iraq War, without even consulting Congress, if he wishes to; and a few Congressional leaders of his party are, cravenly, repeating that line publicly on his behalf.

This is completely unconstitutional, aggressive war policy; it demands that Obama be impeached. Each of these war adventures takes the United States closer and closer to all-out war with Russia and China, just as the imperialists are trying to take Russia closer and closer to war with NATO.

This situation is so fraught, that one Democratic Senate leader, Dianne Feinstein, is calling for forcing out Iraqi President Maliki (as with Diem in Vietnam!) while other Democratic leaders say Obama is free to proceed to the bombing of Iraq in defense of Maliki against the "terrorists" — the ones Obama has supported against Assad in Syria. Republican confusion is no less tragic than this.

This is the insanity of "tactics". Only one way out is strategic: Impeach Obama; then the U.S. can work with China and Russia to turn the situation from war; the basis for that is clearly LaRouche's four laws.

ISIS “Made in USA”. Iraq “Geopolitical Arsonists” Seek to Burn Region

When a fire is raging, firefighters are called – not the arsonist who started it, especially if they return to the scene of the crime dragging a barrel of gasoline behind them. Yet, this is precisely what the US proposes – that they – the geopolitical arsonists – be allowed to return to Iraq to extinguish the threat of heavily armed sectarian militants streaming from NATO territory in Turkey and edging ever closer to Baghdad.

ISIS: Made in USA

The Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) is a creation of the United States and its Persian Gulf allies, namely Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and recently added to the list, Kuwait. The Daily Beast in an article titled, “America’s Allies Are Funding ISIS,” states:

The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS), now threatening Baghdad, was funded for years by wealthy donors in Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, three U.S. allies that have dual agendas in the war on terror.

Despite the candor of the opening sentence, the article would unravel into a myriad of lies laid to obfuscate America’s role in the creation of ISIS. The article would claim:

The extremist group that is threatening the existence of the Iraqi state was built and grown for years with the help of elite donors from American supposed allies in the Persian Gulf region. There, the threat of Iran, Assad, and the Sunni-Shiite sectarian war trumps the U.S. goal of stability and moderation in the region.

However, the US goal in the region was never “stability” and surely not “moderation.” As early as 2007, sources within the Pentagon and across the US intelligence community revealed a conspiracy to drown the Middle East in sectarian war, and to do so by arming and funding extremist groups including the Muslim Brotherhood and Al Qaeda itself. Published in 2007 – a full 4 years before the 2011 “Arab Spring” would begin – Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh’s New Yorker article titled, “”The Redirection: Is the Administration’s new policy benefiting our enemies in the war on terrorism?” stated specifically (emphasis added):

To undermine Iran, which is predominantly Shiite, the Bush Administration has decided, in effect, to reconfigure its priorities in the Middle East. In Lebanon, the Administration has coöperated with Saudi Arabia’s government, which is Sunni, in clandestine operations that are intended to weaken Hezbollah, the Shiite organization that is backed by Iran. The U.S. has also taken part in clandestine operations aimed at Iran and its ally Syria. A by-product of these activities has been the bolstering of Sunni extremist groups that espouse a militant vision of Islam and are hostile to America and sympathetic to Al Qaeda.

The 9 page, extensive report has since been vindicated many times over with revelations of US, NATO, and Persian Gulf complicity in raising armies of extremists within Libya and along Syria’s borders. ISIS itself, which is claimed to occupy a region stretching from northeastern Syria and across northern and western Iraq, has operated all along Turkey’s border with Syria, “coincidentally” where the US CIA has conducted years of “monitoring” and arming of “moderate” groups.

In fact, the US admits it has armed, funded, and equipped “moderates” to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars. In a March 2013 Telegraph article titled, “US and Europe in ‘major airlift of arms to Syrian rebels through Zagreb’,” it was reported that a single program included 3,000 tons of weapons sent in 75 planeloads paid for by Saudi Arabia at the bidding of the United States. The New York Times in its article, “Arms Airlift to Syria Rebels Expands, With C.I.A. Aid,” admits that the CIA assisted Arab governments and Turkey with military aid to terrorists fighting in Syria constituting hundreds of airlifts landing in both Jordan and Turkey.

The vast scale of US, NATO, and Arab aid to terrorists fighting in Syria leaves no doubt that the conspiracy described by Hersh in 2007 was carried out in earnest, and that the reason Al Qaeda groups such as Al Nusra and ISIS displaced so-called “moderates,” was because such “moderates” never existed in any significant manner to begin with. While articles like the Daily Beast’s “America’s Allies Are Funding ISIS” now try to portray a divide between US and Persian Gulf foreign policy, from Hersh’s 2007 article and all throughout the past 3 years in Libya and Syria, the goal of raising an army in the name of Al Qaeda has been clearly shared and demonstrably pursued by both the US and its regional partners.

The plan, from the beginning, was to raise an extremist expeditionary force to trigger a regional sectarian bloodbath – a bloodbath now raging across multiple borders and set to expand further if decisive action is not taken.

Iran Must Avoid America’s “Touch of Death” and Sectarian War at All Costs

Despite an open conspiracy to drown the region in sectarian strife, the US now poses as a stakeholder in Iraq’s stability. Having armed, funded, and assisted ISIS into existence and into northern Iraq itself, the idea of America “intervening” to stop ISIS is comparable to an arsonist extinguishing his fire with more gasoline. Reviled across the region, any government – be it in Baghdad, Tehran, or Damascus – that allies itself with the US will be immediately tainted in the minds of forces forming along both sides of this artificially created but growing sectarian divide. Iran’s mere consideration of joint-operations with the US can strategically hobble any meaningful attempts on the ground to stop ISIS from establishing itself in Iraq and using Iraqi territory to launch attacks against both Tehran and Damascus.

Any Iranian assistance to Iraq should be given only under the condition that the US not intervene in any manner. Iran’s main concern should be portraying the true foreign-funded nature of ISIS, while uniting genuine Sunni and Shia’a groups together to purge what is a foreign invasion of Iraqi territory. Iran must also begin allaying fears among Iraq’s Sunni population that Tehran may try to use the current crisis to gain further influence over Baghdad.

While the US downplays the sectarian aspects of ISIS’ invasion of Iraq before global audiences, its propaganda machine across the Middle East, assisted by Doha and Riyadh, is stoking sectarian tensions. The ISIS has committed itself to a campaign of over-the-top sectarian vitriol and atrocities solely designed to trigger a wider Sunni-Shia’a conflict. That the US created ISIS and it is now in Iraq attempting to stoke a greater bloodbath with its already abhorrent invasion, is precisely why Tehran and Baghdad should take a cue from Damascus, and disassociate itself from the West, dealing with ISIS themselves.

This Will Be the Primary Reason for World War III

Even if Putin and Obama fail to realize the obvious, they are playing for the same team in a script that has been written for them to play out. The script will culminate in World War III.

The Death of the Dollar Is the Motivating Force Behind WW III

Russia is bleeding the Petrodollar dry by leading the BRIC nations in the purchase of Iranian oil for gold. The same situation is emerging in Europe as Russia is on the verge, either by invasion or by proxy control of Ukraine, of controlling a good portion of energy needs supplied to Europe, this coming winter. If Russia is able to bypass the Petrodollar as a means of payment for Russian energy shipments into Europe, Russia will destroy the United States economically.

Russia recently completed a deal which brings China into the Russian energy sphere of influence. If Europe becomes totally dependent on Putin supplying gas to Europe this winter, this will eventually culminate in the weakening of NATO and the isolation of the United States both economically and militarily if the United States fails to act decisively. And with China’s partnership, Putin has added muscle to back up his actions.

Putin and Obama Are Playing On the Same Team

What does Russia want and what will be its eventual goal? Some believe that Russia wants to occupy the United States and perhaps Putin eventually does, but it is not practical at this particular point of time. Economic attrition and military isolation are Putin’s best friends at this time. After all, the US is in possession of over 2,000 nuclear weapons and 72 nuclear armed submarines which are virtually undetectable. Despite the presence of these American deterrents, do not be lulled into a false sense of security, this cold war will soon turn hot and I find myself in agreement with Doug Hagmann on where this war will start and what forces will be involved.

Putin Is a Cult Hero

Putin is developing almost a cult following among some people in the alternative media. To them, he represents a man with the force of conviction to tell international banking where to go and what to do when they get there. On the surface, Putin champions Christianity, professes disdain for the gay agenda and almost sounds like a conservative as he is reading from the past scripts of Ronald Reagan.

Putin is no conservative, he is an evil despot who abused his ex-wife, imprisons enemies and murders journalists who expose his duplicity. To these misguided analysts and Putin supporters who believe that he has succeeded where other world leaders have lost their lives (e.g. JFK, Hussein, etc.), he has become a cult hero. As romantic and appealing as a superhero may be who will ride in and save the world from the evil bankers, nothing could be further from the truth when it comes to Putin. Whether Putin realizes it or not, he is doing the complete bidding of the big boys at the Bank of International Settlements (BIS) and everything is moving right along according to plan.

The World’s Banking Hierarchy

In order to understand the present crisis, one has to understand how modern banking is organized. There are three distinct levels of hierarchal power associated with international banking. On top of the pyramid, is the BIS. They set policy for the central banks and they control the relative value of all the national currencies. They literally have the power of life and death over all central banks.

Central banks, such as the Federal Reserve and the Bank of London, occupy the second level of power. In turn, the central banks control virtually every government on the planet. So, when it is said that “all wars are banker wars”, that axiom is correct.

At the third level, on this hierarchy, are the national banks and we know them as Bank of America and JP Morgan, etc. This is the side of banking that is visible to the majority of the public.

Central Banks and National Banks Are On Death’s Ground

The BIS has utilized the strategy of Sun Tzu and has placed its central bank minions on death’s ground. To Sun Tzu, being on death’s ground means that one is backed into a corner and either the cornered party fights and wins, or they die.

Several years ago, the BIS devised a plot to gain an irreversible hold on the central banks and that was through the introduction of the derivatives scheme. Derivatives, based upon unregulated and wild speculation, mostly in the futures commodities market, had the allure of easy money for groups like the Federal Reserve and Wall Street. The derivatives strategy was based on the principle of all money games, “First man in and first man out wins all the money”.  Unfortunately for the banksters, there were no first men out. The BIS created process led to a total debt of $1.5 quadrillion dollars which is about eight times the entire value of the planet. The BIS contrived a scheme that ensnared all banking. Why? The answer is contained in the following paragraphs.

Predictably, when the over speculated commodities price began to roll up as it does in any Ponzi scheme, the central banks and their third level national banks went running for their very economic lives! This was the sole reason for the bail-outs and the arbitrary banking practices we are seeing enacted across the planet as central banks are stealing bank accounts, retirement accounts and have declared that they own your money when you deposit it. This is why you should get your money out of the bank.

Where Does Putin Fit In to This Scenario?

This BIS plot was an evil, yet brilliant move, because it placed central banks on death’s ground. This desperation will lead to WW III. Putin is feeling the pinch because he must monetize his vast material resources through the BIS. For Putin, the survival of the dollar represent economic death for his currency and economic system as it has for most planet’s economies since the inception of Britton Woods which made the dollar the world’s reserve currency.

Certainly, the Federal Reserve is in crisis mode as it spends all of its energy fighting to preserve the what’s left of the dollar. The control of the dollar is a big prize, because the winner will dominate central banking. For if Putin is successful in moving most of the world away from the dollar, the dollar and the United State empire will die. If the Federal Reserve prevails and reestablishes the power of the dollar, Putin’s economic empire will be subservient to the whims of the Federal Reserve. Putin and Obama are on a collision course towards World War III because this issue will not get settled without a fight.

Although America has 42% of the world’s millionaires, this could disappear overnight if the Federal Reserve collapses. To survive, the Federal Reserve desperately needs a war against the source of its economic distress and that means going to war with Russia as well as China, if need be. Virtually, every Western central bank is on death’s ground and the world is on a collision course for war.

Putin Is Winning So Far

In the present Petrodollar crisis, the central banks have failed to reign in Putin. Although it is true Putin is enriching himself with his access to vast mineral resources and this growing economic empire has convinced China, India, Brazil and South Africa (BRICS) to move under the Russian energy-based economic umbrella, Putin, however, cannot escape the fact that he must monetize his material wealth in order for him to participate in international trade. In order for Putin to monetize his wealth, he needs to remain a part of the Bank of International Settlement (BIS). Putin may not operate his own central bank in the same manner as the rest of the world, thus giving the illusion that he is independent of the boys from Basel, however, the BIS still controls the distribution of his purse strings and the dollar remains a threat to the Russian economy because the use of the dollar cuts most of the profit out of Russia’s energy trade.

Since Putin is under the umbrella of the BIS and Obama is under the umbrella of the Federal Reserve, who answers to the BIS, it is safe to conclude that Obama and Putin are controlled by the same forces. As nobody with any real knowledge of politics would accuse the Democrats and the Republicans of really possessing opposing ideologies, the same can be said for Putin and Obama. Although it is true that Putin and Obama will eventually go to war in Syria, let’s make no mistake about it, Obama and Putin are playing out a script that has been written by the BIS.

Conclusion

The failure of the central banks to corral and control Putin has made World War III a likely scenario. As Putin continues on the path of destroying the dollar as the world’s reserve currency, what will the Federal Reserve do? There will be a war to preserve the status quo. As China, Russia and the United States are drawn into a confrontation, the world’s economy will be obliterated along with billions of lives. In the aftermath of the coming global holocaust, the supreme financial rulers of the planet will be waiting to create order, the New World Order, out of chaos. The BIS is getting exactly what they need to unify the planet.

A willing pawn of the NWO, or not, Putin is no hero. He is doing exactly what is expected. Make no mistake about, the BIS controls the central banks, world finance and Putin. The U.S. policy fiasco in Iraq spanned two presidencies — Bush/Cheney and Obama, and now the same neocons who pushed the Iraq invasion based on fake intelligence, are calling for airstrikes. They are already opportunistically launching a debate on "Who lost Iraq," failing to take the lion's share of responsibility themselves for the decade-long disaster now playing out.

ISIL Offensive: Ultimate Division of Iraq into Sectarian/Ethnic Mini-States

The British-American policies in Iraq have not been a failure, since the goal has been to achieve Tony Blair's vision of a post-Westphalian Treaty world. The notion of a modern, sovereign and independent nation-state under which flag many ethnic and religious entities could coexist as citizens of one nation, is becoming a thing of the past, at least in Southwest Asia. Since at least September 11, 2001, and emphatically since the act of aggressive war (according to the Nuremberg Tribunals), this has been the policy of the British Empire and its partner the Bush-Cheney and, later, Obama Administrations.
The offensive launched by the relatively small Salafi-Islamic terrorist group, the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (or the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, ISIL/ISIS), on the second largest city in Iraq, Mosul, and, later, Tikrit, has shaken the region and the world. However, it has to be emphasized that the ISIL has no possibility of taking over such a large city and territory by itself, let alone exerting any control over large cities or territories without support from regional or even world powers, in addition to collaboration of local tribes and political/armed groups that are opposed to the central government.
In the smaller context, and according to many observers and local analysts, this offensive has been in the works since the re-election of the political alliance of the current Prime Minister of Iraq Nouri Al-Maliki. Saudi Arabia and its allies in Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, and even Qatar have made no secret that they were disappointed by this result, giving an Iran ally, and his Shi'a alliance renewed control over the government and the political life in most of Iraq. This happened simultaneously as the Syria Army of Bashar Al-Assad government was achieving major victories against the Anglo-Saudi- and Obama- backed Islamic terrorist groups in Syria.
Al-Maliki had waged a massive military operation against the ISIL and its supporters in the local tribes in western Iraq in the Anbar Province in November/December but was not completely successful, due to tribal wheeling-and-dealings that involved Saudi Arabia and its allies, in addition to corrupt deals made by Maliki with Sunni leaders in that province. Both Russia and the U.S. Defense Department supported Al-Maliki's offensive in Anbar.
The ISIL move into Mosul was a signal for other forces to move to complete the sectarian division of Iraq. The ISIL was able to invade the city of Mosul, because the military, security, and police commanders ordered their troops to abandon the city without a fight, and then they, themselves, sought refuge in the militarily powerful Kurdish region. The local armed forces and police commanders are accused of treason by the central government. Many of them are former members of the Iraqi Army under Saddam Hussein's regime that was dismantled by the regime-change-commander-in-chief, Paul Bremer. They turned into the resistance movement against the U.S. Army, but later were appeased by General Petraeus's "surge" policy, which tried to appease these forces, and paid and armed them to be incorporate into some local security forces.
However, that was done not on the basis of being part of a national army, but on the basis of protecting their tribe, clan, and local area. This made them strong rivals to the central government, which had to fight their influence and the infiltration of Al-Qaeda and ISIL into their ranks all by itself after the U.S. army left Iraq!
After Mosul, the ISIL then moved to Tikrit, a stronghold of the Saddam regime loyal tribes who were completely humiliated and stripped of all economic, social, and political privileges after the American-British invasion in 2003. They were later side-stepped by the Shi'a-dominated, but U.S.-backed new government that looked at those western province tribes as their former tormentors and Saddam's henchmen. Left to their fate, these tribes, who in addition share ancestral lines with tribes in Syria, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia, became an easy prey for the Saudi Wahhabi or extremist Sunni propaganda and money.
According to eyewitness reports from Mosul, the ISIL have already left the center of the city, because they use their limited forces to attack other cities, like locusts, farther south towards the capital Baghdad. This triggered a number of reactions, or already planned moves. In the absence of any Iraqi formal army, the Kurds extended their security zone into disputed areas (with the Arabs) in both the Mosul province and oil-rich Kirkuk under the pretext of protecting the Kurdish minorities from the ISIL. Since the Iraqi army and security forces are no longer reliable, Shi'a clerics in central and south Iraq like Ammar Al-Hakim and Muqtada Al-Sadr are forming or rebuilding their own Shi'a militias to stop the advance of ISIL and its "Sunni" supporters into Shi'a cities and other cities where there are Shi'a religious sites like Samarra, north of Baghdad. This move will turn the conflict completely into a Shi'a-Sunni strife. Bloodshed can be expected to increase in the mixed areas north of Baghdad, and even Baghdad itself.
While the ISIL is not going to be capable of keeping control over such a vast territory in the western provinces of Iraq, it is expected that local Sunni militias will be formed to prevent the return of whatever is left of the Iraqi army. Local political and governing entities could also be formed in the Mosul, Salhaddin, and Anbar provinces, to form an autonomous region like the Kurdish one in the northeast and Shi'a in the south, thus actualizing the division of the country. But, unlike the Kurdish and southern Iraqi regions, the western region has little oil and gas resources, the sole source of income for Iraq since 2003! This will make the fight over the oil in the border regions among the three, and the ways of exporting it to Turkey, Jordan, or Saudi Arabia, a major open source of conflict, like that in South and North Sudan. In the meantime, the Sunni tribes in the western provinces of Iraq will have to rely on support from Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and the U.A.E. But the price they have to pay is in their own and their other Iraqi compatriots' blood.
In terms of regions, Turkey (a Sunni state), which has been supporting anti-Assad Salafi terrorist groups, has vowed to intervene as a NATO member (!) in Iraq and would love to intervene directly into Syria, under the pretext of fighting the ISIL who have taken the Turkish Consul and many officers in the Turkish Consulate in Mosul as hostages. Iran has offered the Iraqi government assistance in fighting the terrorists. The Saudi press, although paying lip service to the Saudi official anti-terrorist stance, is full of schadenfreude over the failure of the Maliki government. In Kuwait, rallies were held in support of the ISIL!
In the larger context, this remains part of the pattern of regime-change and "color revolutions" that have swept over large parts of southwest Asia and North-Africa, in addition to Eastern Europe. Tony Blair's vision is being implemented, with blood in Southwest Asia, North Africa, and Ukraine, and with financial warfare against the nations of Europe, who are being stripped of their sovereignty through the bail-out and bail-in policies. And in the United States, British stooge Obama is presiding over the total take-down of what little was left of the real U.S. agro-industrial economy.

Leading the pack, as usual, is Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), grandstanding before and after Thursday's classified briefing of the Senate Armed Services committee on the Iraq situation. The Hill reported this morning that McCain, on his way to the briefing, "called for the president to clean house on national security as a wave of Islamic extremists threatened to march on Baghdad. President Obama should 'get rid of his national security team, which has been a total failure.'" The article continued that "McCain left the closed-door briefing after only a matter of minutes, telling reporters the security situation in Iraq 'is the greatest threat since the Cold War'" and that he said "the administration should 'call back in people who succeeded in Iraq' such as Gens. David Petraeus and Jack Keane, widely regarded as the architects of the U.S. military's 'surge' strategy."

Lavrov Slams British Cynicism and Failure of Anglo-American Policy

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov slammed the British by name on Thursday, noting that the ongoing events in Iraq show the absolute failure of Anglo-American policy. This Lavrov statement should be seen in the context of the May 23 Moscow International Security Conference panels, where Lavrov and other top Russian and Belarus officials slammed the West's new "color revolution" warfare. Under the headline "Lavrov: Iraq developments show total failure of American-British 'adventure,'" Russia Today highlighted Lavrov's pointed attacks on the Brits.
"It has been reported that the UK foreign minister declared that the events in Iraq are, according to him, an illustration that terrorism is rampant in the region due to the absence of reconciliation in Syria," Lavrov told reporters in Moscow. "We've known that our English colleagues have a unique ability to twist everything. But I didn't expect such cynicism, because the events that are taking place in Iraq are an illustration of a complete failure of the venture started by the US and the UK that allowed it to spiral out of control completely."
Lavrov added, "We express our solidarity with the Iraqi authorities, the Iraqi people who should restore peace and security in their country, but the actions of our Western partners raise a lot of questions." Lavrov went back 11 years to President George W. Bush's declaration of victory for democracy in Iraq, noting that "the situation has deteriorated in geometrical progression. The unity of Iraq has been called into question. The rampant terrorism is taking place due to the fact that the occupation troops didn't pay any attention to the interior political processes, didn't help the national dialogue, and only pursued their own interests."
In the same discussion with reporters, Lavrov also addressed the crisis in Ukraine, noting that the Russian Ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, will be asking the OSCE mission in Ukraine to thoroughly investigate the use of indiscriminate weapons against civilian populations in Odessa on May 2, in Mariupol on May 9, and the sniper fire on the Maidan in February. He added that Russia has now submitted a draft UN Security Council resolution demanding a halt in the violence and military actions.

That McCain should be voicing such sentiments is unsurprising, but a little ironic, as the International Republican Institute, where he is chairman of the board, has been fomenting uprisings across the Middle East and North Africa since at least 2011, and al Qaeda and other militant Islamists have funneled their forces into those uprisings. McCain, himself, famously met with al Qaeda-aligned troops in Syria last year while he was busy promoting a war there.
The Hill reported that McCain also specifically called for the resignation of Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Martin Dempsey. The article further reported that "McCain said later on the Senate floor that the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq was dictated by politics and not by the nation's security interests. 'All of this could have been avoided,' McCain said of the growing strength of al Qaeda-linked jihadists in Iraq. He warned they will use the territory they control in Iraq and Afghanistan to plot and launch attacks against the United States. He accused the Obama administration of squandering the security gains that cost the lives of 4,486 American soldiers and cost U.S. taxpayers what a 2013 Harvard study estimated to be $4 trillion to $6 trillion. McCain blasted White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough, Obama's former deputy national security advisor, for telling reporters in 2011 that Iraq was secure, stable and self-reliant. ... Instead, McCain said the unraveling of Iraqi security is a 'colossal failure of American security policy.' McCain said air strikes should be considered to slow the insurgents' advance. 'Explore all the options of air power. Get a team over there to advise them,' he said."
McCain's frequent allies in national security pronouncements were not far behind here. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) also called for airstrikes: "There is no scenario where we can stop the bleeding in Iraq without American airpower," he's quoted in The Hill. And GOP national security poster-girl Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H) was quoted by The Hill as having "said the deteriorating security situation was due to the Obama administration failing to secure a status of forces agreement with the Iraq government that would have allowed U.S. troops to stay in the country. 'We're seeing the unraveling of Iraq,' she told reporters before the meeting, expressing concern for the security of the U.S. embassy there. She said the ongoing crisis was a 'lesson for Afghanistan' and chided the president's recent West Point speech where he announced all troops would be out of that country by the end of 2016. 'I hope the president would take some of the lessons of what we're seeing happening in Iraq and not repeat them in Afghanistan,' Ayotte said."

McCain Not Alone

Other Senators had comments on Iraq as well; The Hill noted that "The only common view among those who attended the classified session is that the U.S. should not send in ground troops." Sen. Bill Nelson (D-Fla.) said the U.S. should consider the use of drones with hellfire missiles if "Iraq nears collapse."
The Armed Services Committee leaders were not so precipitate. The Hill quoted GOP Ranking Member Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.) that it was too early to call for airstrikes. And Chairman Carl Levin (D-Mich.) was reported by The Hill to have said that the Iraq War was started "without adequate consideration for the consequences," and that the United States should carefully consider its options. Levin also faulted Iraq's Shi'ite-dominated government for not reaching out to Sunni citizens, and suggested that airstrikes wouldn't help the situation on the ground if forces loyal to the Iraqi government wouldn't fight.
"It's unclear how airstrikes on our part can succeed, unless the Iraqi army is willing to fight, and that's uncertain given the fact that several Iraqi army divisions have melted away," Levin said in a statement. "While all options should be considered, the problem in Iraq has not been so much a lack of direct U.S. military involvement, but a lack of reconciliation on the part of Iraqi leaders."
Meanwhile, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), always one to reduce a situation to partisan advantage, blasted the President for "taking a nap" while conditions on the ground worsened. "It's not like we haven't seen this problem coming for over a year, and it's not like we haven't seen, over the last five or six months, these terrorists moving in, taking control of western Iraq," he said. He evidently didn't address what he failed to do as "we" saw this coming.
